About This Book

The ten nullifiers of Islam are among the most important matters a Muslim must know. They are not obscure rulings from the margins of the religion — they are the acts that the scholars have identified as removing a person from Islam entirely, making awareness of them an obligation upon every Muslim who wishes to protect their faith.

Enlightening Mankind: A Commentary on the Nullifiers of Islam provides a detailed explanation of the ten nullifiers compiled by Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab in his treatise Nawaqid al-Islam — a text widely studied in Islamic creed.

What This Book Covers

Shirk in the Worship of Allah

The first and most serious nullifier is associating partners with Allah in worship. Allah says: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." (Surah an-Nisa: 48). No deed, however great, can coexist in a person's record with shirk.

Taking Intermediaries Between Oneself and Allah

Whoever places intercessors or intermediaries between himself and Allah, calling upon them and seeking their help in the manner that belongs to Allah alone, has committed shirk and nullified his Islam — regardless of whether those intermediaries are prophets, righteous people, or anything else.

Not Declaring Polytheists to Be Disbelievers

Whoever does not hold the mushrikeen to be disbelievers, doubts their disbelief, or considers their way of life to be valid has nullified their Islam — because certainty in the disbelief of shirk is part of what La ilaha illallah requires.

The Remaining Seven Nullifiers

The commentary covers all ten nullifiers in full — including: believing that any guidance is more complete than the Prophet's, hating anything the Messenger came with, mocking the religion, practicing magic, supporting polytheists against Muslims, believing it is permissible to leave the Shariah of Muhammad, and turning away from the religion without learning or practicing it. Each is explained with its evidential basis from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

About the Author

The original treatise, Nawaqid al-Islam, is by Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH), who was born in al-Uyaynah in Najd and studied in Madinah, Basra and al-Ahsa before returning to teach in Najd, devoting his life to calling the Muslim community back to Tawheed on the evidence of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Published by Al-Ihsan Publications.

Who This Book Is For

Every Muslim — particularly students of aqeedah, new Muslims building a sound foundation, and Islamic teachers looking for a thorough explanation of these critical matters.

From the same author, The Four Fundamental Principles distinguishes tawheed from shirk at its root, The Removal of Doubts answers the arguments raised in its defence, and Aspects of Jahiliyyah identifies the pre-Islamic practices that persist today. His central work is covered in our article on Kitab at-Tawheed.
