Allah has made sins a cause of harm — harm to the heart, to the body, to rizq, to relationships, and ultimately to the standing of a person in the akhirah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every son of Adam sins, and the best of those who sin are those who repent." (Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2499, graded hasan by Shaykh al-Albani) But repentance requires that a person first recognize what constitutes a sin — and particularly what rises to the level of a major sin (kabeerah), which carries its own severe warning in the Qur'an and Sunnah.

About the Author

This work is by Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH). The publisher's edition carries his name in the form "Muhammad ibn Sulayman at-Tamimi", using his grandfather's name — his full lineage is Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab ibn Sulayman ibn Ali at-Tamimi. He was born in al-Uyaynah in Najd and studied in Madinah, Basra and al-Ahsa before returning to teach in Najd, devoting his life to calling the Muslim community back to Tawheed on the evidence of the Qur'an and Sunnah.
