Soorat Yoosuf is described by Allah as ahsan al-qasas — the most beautiful of stories — and no other soorah tells a single Prophet's life so completely. In Lessons from the Story of Yoosuf, Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir as-Sa'di walks through the major events of the life of Prophet Yoosuf (peace be upon him) — from the plot of his brothers and the well, to slavery, false accusation and prison, and finally to his being given authority over the treasuries of Egypt — and draws out the beneficial lessons a believer can apply today.

Concise, warm, and firmly rooted in the Qur'an, the book is less a retelling than a teacher's reflection: at each turn the Shaykh pauses to show what the believer should take from it — in creed, in character, and in the ordinary matters of family and daily life.

About the Author

Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir as-Sa'di (1307–1376 AH / 1889–1957 CE) taught in 'Unayzah in the Qaseem region, where his students included Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymin. He is known for his tafsir, Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman, and for a teaching method marked by clarity, structure, and reliance on evidence. Translated by Nasiruddin Khattab.
