About This Book

Riyad-us-Saliheen by Imam al-Nawawi has been one of the most read hadith collections in the Islamic world for seven centuries. Its chapters on sincerity, repentance, patience, watchfulness of Allah, gratitude, and righteous character cover the inner and outer life of the believer comprehensively. But the text of the hadiths alone — without explanation — leaves much of this richness inaccessible to the English-speaking reader.

About This Book

Commentary on Riyadh as-Saliheen (2-Volume Set) presents Shaykh Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah ibn Baz's explanation of the foundational chapters of this collection — clarifying the meaning of each hadith and connecting it to the believer's daily life.

What This Commentary Covers

The Foundational Chapters of Riyad-us-Saliheen

These two volumes focus on the opening and most essential chapters of al-Nawawi's collection — the chapters on sincerity and intention, repentance, patience, truthfulness, watchfulness of Allah (muraqabah), taqwa, reliance on Allah (tawakkul), certainty (yaqin), and steadfastness (istiqamah). These are the chapters that address the inner life of the believer — the states of the heart that determine the quality of every external action.

Clear Explanation with Practical Application

Shaykh Ibn Baz's commentary clarifies the meaning of each hadith, draws out its rulings and benefits, and connects it to the believer's daily life. Each narration is presented with a concise, practical explanation — true to the Shaykh's style of making complex matters immediately understandable and applicable.

The Believer's Inner Life — From the Sunnah

What makes this volume particularly valuable is that it grounds Islamic spirituality and character development entirely in the authentic Sunnah — not in philosophy, not in opinion, not in folk tradition, but in the actual words and actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as transmitted through reliable chains and explained by a senior scholar of Ahlus-Sunnah.

About the Authors

The original collection, Riyad as-Saliheen, was compiled by Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya bin Sharaf an-Nawawi (631–676 AH). This commentary upon it is by Shaykh Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah ibn Baz (1330–1420 AH / 1910–1999 CE), who was born in Riyadh, lost his sight in his youth, served as head of the Islamic University of Madinah, and later as Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars. Published by Al-Ihsan Publications.

Who This Book Is For

Every Muslim who wants to study Riyad-us-Saliheen with the benefit of a senior scholar's explanation — not just reading the hadiths but understanding what they mean and how to live them. Suited to personal study, halaqahs, and Islamic education programs. Particularly valuable for anyone working on their inner character and wanting Sunnah-grounded guidance on sincerity, patience, tawakkul, and the other stations of the believer's heart.
