Abu Zakariya Yahya bin Sharaf An-Nawawi
Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi (631–676 AH) was one of the most widely benefited scholars of hadith and Shafi'i jurisprudence in Islamic history, despite his relatively short life. Born in the village of Nawa near Damascus, he moved to the city as a young man and devoted himself completely to knowledge and worship, studying under the leading scholars of his day at institutions such as Dar al-Hadith al-Ashrafiyyah and reportedly attending many lessons each day across the Islamic sciences.
He authored a number of works that remain among the most read in the Muslim world — including his collection of Forty Hadith, Riyad as-Salihin, and his celebrated commentary on Sahih Muslim — distinguished by their sincerity, precision, and concern for the benefit of the reader. His books continue to be studied and taught across the world to this day.
Below is our collection of Imam an-Nawawi's works translated into English, available at The Islamic Book Cafe.
