Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz

Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz (1330–1420 AH) was the former Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Born and raised in Riyadh, he studied under its senior scholars — among them Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Aal ash-Shaykh, under whom he studied for around a decade — and lost his eyesight in his youth, after which he devoted himself further to knowledge and memorisation.

He served as a teacher, judge, and eventually head of the major scholarly bodies of the kingdom, and was known for his accessibility to ordinary Muslims and the volume of questions he answered. His fatawa and explanations, grounded firmly in the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf, remain widely referenced.
