Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz (1330–1420 AH) was the former Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and one of the most influential and beloved scholars of the modern era. Born and raised in Riyadh, he studied under its senior scholars — foremost among them Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Aal ash-Shaykh, under whom he studied for around a decade — and lost his eyesight in his youth, which only deepened his devotion to knowledge and memorisation.
He served as a teacher, judge, and eventually head of the major scholarly bodies of the kingdom, and was known throughout the Muslim world for his depth of knowledge, humility, and accessibility to ordinary Muslims. His fatawa and explanations, grounded firmly in the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf, remain a trusted reference the world over.
