The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was born in Makkah on 12 Rabi' al-Awwal, the Year of the Elephant. His father's name was 'Abd-Allah Ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib al-Hashimi, and his mother was Amina Bint Wahb. At that time, Makkah was full of idols that Arabs worshipped. When he was born, his grandfather brought him to the Ka'bah, he invoked Allah and thanked Him. He chose for him the name Muhammad.
