Ibn Abi Dunya

Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Abdullah ibn Muhammad Ibn Abi Dunya (208–281 AH) was an early scholar of hadith and one of the most prolific authors of the third Islamic century, entrusted with the education of several of the children of the Abbasid caliphs. Based in Baghdad, he transmitted from the leading muhaddithun of his age and compiled a vast library of concise, focused works.

He is best known for his many treatises on heart-softening (raqa'iq), noble character, gratitude, patience, and the remembrance of death and the Hereafter — books that gather the verses, authentic narrations, and reports of the Salaf on each theme. His writings remain a rich resource for the believer seeking to purify the heart upon the guidance of the pious predecessors.
