The Heavenly Dispute by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali

This commentary on the hadith in which the higher angels disputed before Allah about the expiations of sins and the elevations of rank is among the most beloved of Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali's shorter works. The Heavenly Dispute takes this profound narration — reported from Mu'adh ibn Jabal in the Sunan of at-Tirmidhi (Sunan at-Tirmidhi 3233, graded sahih by Shaykh al-Albani) — and draws from it a rich treatment of the means by which a Muslim's sins are expiated and their station raised before Allah.
