Shaykh Muhammad Taqi al-Din al-Hilali
Shaykh Dr. Muhammad Taqi al-Din al-Hilali (1311–1407 AH / 1893–1987 CE) was a widely-travelled Moroccan scholar of hadith, language, and creed, and one of the leading figures of the Salafi call in the twentieth century. Born in the Tafilalt region of Morocco and a descendant of the family of the Prophet, he memorised the Qur'an as a boy, studied Arabic and Maliki fiqh with the scholars of his land, and graduated from al-Qarawiyyin before travelling in search of knowledge through Egypt, India — where he received ijazah in the six books of hadith from Shaykh Abd ar-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri — Iraq, and Europe.
He taught in the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah and the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, and was later invited by Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz to teach at the Islamic University of Madinah. Among English-speaking Muslims he is best known for co-translating, together with Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, The Noble Qur'an and the English rendering of Sahih al-Bukhari — works that remain in wide circulation to this day. Below are the titles connected to Shaykh Muhammad Taqi al-Din al-Hilali available at The Islamic Book Cafe.
