Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (773–852 AH) was among the greatest scholars of hadith Islam has produced, so accomplished in the field that he became known as Amir al-Mu'minin fi al-Hadith (the Commander of the Faithful in Hadith). Based in Cairo, he studied under the leading muhaddithun of his age — foremost among them the hadith master al-Hafiz Zayn al-Din al-Iraqi — and went on to teach, judge, and write prolifically over a long and productive life.
His monumental Fath al-Bari, a commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari, is considered by many the finest explanation of that collection ever written, and works such as Bulugh al-Maram and al-Isabah remain essential references for students of hadith. His scholarship is drawn upon by virtually every serious student of the Sunnah.
Below is our collection of Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's works translated into English, available at The Islamic Book Cafe.
