Imam Muhammad Ibn Isa Al-Tirmidhi

Al-Imam Abu Isa Muhammad ibn Isa at-Tirmidhi (209–279 AH) was a scholar of hadith and the compiler of one of the six canonical collections. Born in Tirmidh in Khurasan, he travelled extensively in pursuit of hadith and studied under the scholars of his age — among them Imam al-Bukhari, from whom he took a great deal — and was known for his memory and his care in transmission.

He is best known for his Jami (Sunan at-Tirmidhi), distinguished by its careful attention to the gradings of hadith and the positions of the jurists. His collection remains one of the pillars of the study of the Sunnah.
