Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi

Al-Hafiz al-Khatib al-Baghdadi (392–463 AH) was a scholar of hadith and its sciences, and the historian of the city of Baghdad. He devoted himself to the study and documentation of hadith and its narrators, travelling in its pursuit and working in the disciplines of narrator-criticism and the methodology of transmission.

He is best known for Tarikh Baghdad, a biographical history of the scholars of the city, and for his works on the etiquettes and principles of narrating hadith. His writings remain key references in the science of hadith.
