Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi

Al-Hafiz al-Khatib al-Baghdadi (392–463 AH) was one of the greatest scholars of hadith and its sciences in his time and the foremost historian of the city of Baghdad. He devoted himself to the study and documentation of hadith and its narrators, travelling in its pursuit and mastering the disciplines of narrator-criticism and the methodology of transmission.

He is best known for his monumental Tarikh Baghdad, a biographical history of the scholars of the city, and for foundational works on the etiquettes and principles of narrating hadith. His writings remain key references in the science of hadith.
