al-Hafiz Jalal al-Din as-Suyuti (849–911 AH) was one of the most prolific scholars in Islamic history, a polymath of Cairo who authored hundreds of works across tafsir, hadith, the Qur'anic sciences, Arabic language, and history. Orphaned young, he memorised the Qur'an as a child and studied under many of the leading scholars of Egypt in his time, attaining mastery in numerous disciplines while still young.
He is known for works of enduring reference, including al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an on the sciences of the Qur'an, the tafsir ad-Durr al-Manthur, and his completion of Tafsir al-Jalalayn. His vast output remains a resource for students and scholars to this day.
