Al-Hafiz Ibn 'Abd al-Barr
Al-Hafiz Ibn Abd al-Barr (368–463 AH) was the leading scholar of hadith of al-Andalus in his era and one of the great memorisers and jurists of the Maliki school. Based in Cordoba and later other cities of Muslim Spain, he mastered hadith, fiqh, and history, and was praised by the scholars of both East and West for the breadth of his knowledge.
He is known for major works such as at-Tamhid, a vast commentary on the Muwatta of Imam Malik, and Jami Bayan al-Ilm wa Fadlih on the etiquette of seeking knowledge. His writings remain valued references in hadith and its sciences.
