Al-Hafiz Abdul-Ghani al-Maqdasi
Al-Hafiz Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi (541–600 AH) was a leading scholar of hadith and one of the great memorisers (huffaz) of his era, from the well-known Maqdisi family of Hanbali scholars who settled around Damascus. He devoted his life to the study, memorisation, and transmission of hadith, travelling widely in its pursuit and becoming an authority in the narrators and defects of narrations.
He is best known for Umdat al-Ahkam, a concise and widely memorised collection of authentic hadith on the rulings of worship drawn from the two Sahihs, which has been taught and explained by scholars for centuries. His works remain a foundation for students beginning in the study of hadith.
