Al-Imam Abu al-Hasan Ali al-Wahidi an-Naysaburi (d. 468 AH) was a leading scholar of Qur'anic exegesis and the Arabic language in his era, based in Nishapur. He studied under the well-known mufassir ath-Tha'labi and became one of the most respected authorities on tafsir and the circumstances surrounding the revelation of the Qur'an.
He is best known for Asbab an-Nuzul, the foundational work documenting the occasions of revelation of the verses of the Qur'an, which remains a standard reference in the field to this day. His scholarship in exegesis was widely relied upon by later scholars.
