Abdullah ibn 'Abd al-Hamid al-Athari is a contemporary writer on Islamic creed whose work is devoted to presenting the aqeedah of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah in a clear, accessible form for the ordinary Muslim. His nisbah, al-Athari, reflects the path he writes upon — that of the people of hadith and narration (athar), following the Book, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf as-Salih.
He is best known among English readers for Islamic Beliefs: A Brief Introduction to the 'Aqeedah of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, published by the International Islamic Publishing House and reviewed and endorsed by a number of senior scholars, among them Shaykh Salih ibn Abdul-Aziz Aal ash-Shaykh, Shaykh Sa'ud ash-Shuraym, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Jamil Zayno, and Shaykh Nasir al-'Aql. The book distils the teachings of the scholars on the fundamentals of belief and contrasts the path of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the early generations with the way of the deviant sects.
