A child's bond with Islam can begin long before they can read a single word. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that every child arrives already inclined toward their Creator:
Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) and his parents convert him to Judaism or Christianity or Magianism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1385)
Board books and cloth books are one of the gentlest ways to nurture that fitrah from the very start — sturdy, chewable, and full of the first words of faith. Here are our favourites for babies and toddlers.
Why Start So Young?
The earliest years are when sounds, words, and warm associations take root. A cloth book grasped in tiny hands or a board book read at bedtime plants the names of Allah, simple du'a, and good manners into a child's world before the wider world offers anything else. None of these require reading ability — only a parent willing to share them.
Crinkle Cloth Books for the Littlest Hands
I Say Bismillah – My First Book of Sunnah Foods ($9.00) is a soft, crinkly cloth book that pairs the habit of saying Bismillah with the foods of the Sunnah. The World Around Me – First Words from Quran ($9.00) introduces a baby's very first bilingual words drawn from the Qur'an. Both are safe for little hands and mouths, and perfect for tummy-time and travel.
First Board Books of Faith and Manners
For toddlers ready to turn thick pages, My Aqeedah – Bilingual Board Book ($11.00) puts the very first words of creed into English and Arabic. Let's Be Kind ($13.00) turns good character into a simple, sweet lesson, and Ayeina's My First Bilingual Islamic Manners Pack ($30.00) gives you three sturdy manners board books in one bundle.
Building a Toddler's Islamic Shelf
Start with one or two, read them often, and let repetition do its quiet work. A shelf of durable, faith-filled books is one of the simplest gifts you can give a Muslim child in their earliest years. When they're ready for more, our roundup of First Books of Tawhid for Little Muslims, our spotlight on Fitrah Beginnings, and our list of 10 Must-Have Islamic Books for Children are natural next steps.
