About This Book

Kitab al-Tawheed by Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab is one of the most important books written on Islamic monotheism. The author witnessed with his own eyes Muslims venerating graves, calling upon the dead, seeking omens, and distorting the names and attributes of Allah — and he wrote this book to confront those deviations head-on, drawing every argument from the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah.

Kitab At-Tawheed Explained presents Sameh Strauch's English translation of this landmark text — unique in that each piece of textual evidence is followed immediately by an explanation of its points of benefit, supplemented where needed by material from recognized Arabic commentaries. The result is a self-contained study text, not just a translation.

What This Book Covers

What Tawheed Actually Requires

The book establishes from the Qur'an and Sunnah what it means to single out Allah alone in worship — not just intellectually acknowledging His existence but directing every act of ibadah exclusively to Him. Chapter by chapter, it identifies what Tawheed requires and what violates it, covering matters that many Muslims have never considered: the prohibition of swearing by other than Allah, the rulings on seeking blessing from trees and graves, the distinction between lawful and prohibited tawassul, and much more.

The Violations of Tawheed — Named and Evidenced

One of the most distinctive features of Kitab al-Tawheed is its directness. Rather than speaking about Tawheed in generalities, the author identifies specific violations — some widespread in his era, many still widespread today — and brings Quranic verse and authentic hadith to establish that these are indeed violations. Each chapter title is itself a lesson in what Tawheed prohibits.

Points of Benefit — Explained After Each Evidence

In this English edition, every piece of textual evidence is followed by a numbered list of the points of benefit that scholars have derived from it. This format makes the book not just readable but genuinely teachable — ideal for self-study, halaqahs, and classroom settings where students benefit from seeing exactly what conclusions the scholars drew from each text.
