Humility is not merely a moral choice; it is a reflection of the believer’s awareness of his position before Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, and his recognition of Allāh’s Supreme Majesty. Arrogance on the other hand, is a trait condemned repeatedly in the Qur’ān and Sunnah, for it leads to injustice, mistreatment of others, and a false sense of superiority.

This work aims to explore the significance of humility and its manifestation in various aspects of a Muslim’s life: in their dealings with others, in their speech, in their clothing, and even in the way they walk upon the earth. It also seeks to address the importance of shunning fame and recognition, for the true believer strives to be known to Allāh, not to the people. This text will revive the practice of humility among Muslims, reminding us of the dangers of arrogance and the immense reward awaiting those who embody true humility.

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr Ibn Abī Dunyā was an authoritative and prolific writer and compiler of Hadith.
